THERAPEUTIC GAP SEMESTER

The Point Puerto Rico is a one-of-a-kind, exclusive Therapeutic Gap Semester Program that supports young adult males and females, ages 18-30 years old, who are searching for self-discovery through an experiential and adventure-based curriculum. TPPR seeks to challenge an individual’s self-perceived limitations while providing a broader understanding of their personal identity and ability to find success. By offering a unique hybrid experience that includes cultural immersion, outdoor adventure, college coursework, mentoring and therapeutic support, The Point provides the opportunity for healthy identity development, increased self-efficacy, emotional regulation and skill building.

Our hybrid therapeutic model includes the components of a traditional gap semester such as cultural immersion, experiential activities, and humanitarian efforts, and also includes additional support in personal development, therapeutic support, assessment and wellness.

The hybrid model also provides a supportive environment for young adults to develop through our adventure-based curriculum. Daily interaction from our leadership team, including our Program Director, Clinical Director, Life Coach and trained Mentors is provided.

We achieve our mission through a three phase program intentionally designed to meet the goals of each young adult. Readiness for progression to each stage is decided by the leadership team in conjunction with the individual and family.

HOW IT WORKS

Staff Guided
TPPR students will engage in the VIA Character Strengths Survey, in addition to other forms of evaluation on an individualized basis. These assessments help develop awareness of competencies. The competencies are then implemented through an experiential and adventure-based curriculum. This curriculum affords our young adults the ability to understand themselves and their relationships with others as they experience various cultural immersion opportunities and engage in the therapeutic process.

Student Directed-Staff Supported
Our young adults will choose an individual competency in the areas of adventure, experiential, service and/or academia. An intentional and specific curriculum is crafted to develop oneself in the areas of professional and personal interest. By participating in internship/volunteering, college coursework (if applicable), certifications, and/or experiential activities they will maintain exploration in their personal strengths, self-identity, and motivation through this cultural immersion lifestyle.
